Commission Mandate

The Environment Commission was established by Bylaw 2943 in April 2007 and an amending Bylaw 3243 in January 2009.

The responsibilities of the Environment Commission are as follows:

  • Develop an Environment Strategic Plan that will provide strategic guidance on priority environmental issues and responses for the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD).
  • Act as the Plan Monitoring Committee for the CVRD's Solid Waste Managment Plan, and Central Sector Liquid Waste Management Plan and to be the Local Advisory Water Protection Committee.
  • Undertake specific inquiries aimed at evaluating a major issue or issues affecting the community and the environment and recommending solutions to the CVRD Board.
  • Report to the Board within one year after the inaugural meeting of the Environment Commission on the appropriateness of the Commission mandate, structure and administration (completed and now in our second year of implementation).
